It is the time of year for Turkey Trot races once again! These races can be a fun way to start off your Thanksgiving holiday with some activity. Whether you are running for your best time or walking to improve your health, be sure to be ready for your race. Here are some things to keep in mind:
Make sure your shoes are in good shape. Most athletic shoes should be replaced every 300-500 miles, depending on the activity.
Stay hydrated with water before and after the race to reduce the chance of muscle cramping and dehydration.
Stretching is important! Be sure to stretch before and after the race.
If you are feeling some pain, don't push through. Pain is your body telling you something is wrong. From small things like blisters to larger injuries like ankle sprains, make sure to stop if you need to.
If you have any questions on getting ready for your race or after your race, the podiatrists at The Ankle and Foot Clinic of Northern Virginia are here to help!
